The Cabinet of Ministers told how many years it may take for Ukraine to join the EU

Ukraine's accession to the European Union could take seven years. Because it is necessary to implement a large amount of EU legislation.

This was stated by Natalia Forsyuk, director general of the government office for the coordination of European integration.

"I think there is no (chance of joining the EU in 2023, - ed.). It is impossible procedurally, not because Ukraine will fail. By analysis, seven years is very good. I think we should proceed from this," she said.

Forsyuk explained that the procedure of joining the EU will be long, because it is necessary to fulfill the recommendations from the conclusion of the European Commission. According to her, Ukraine has progress on all the conditions - they should be fulfilled, not start something all over again.

Forsyuk added that after that, EU countries must support the opening of negotiations with Ukraine, and Kiev must begin to implement EU legislation, which is a long procedure.

"Before that, it's very unlikely, because of the enormous amount of legislation that we have to not only adopt, but also implement in our everyday life. That is, we have to live completely by the laws of Europe - economically, politically, judicially. This cannot happen in a year," she stressed.
