Relations between Poland and Ukraine moved to a new stage - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has attended the opening of Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental consultations, the press service of the head of state has reported.

 

The President stressed that the meeting of the two governments in this format for the first time and is historic for our states.

 

"I want to note the priority of relations between Ukraine and Poland. I believe that our relations from warm and neighborly because of the war of Russia against Ukraine moved to a new stage - relations of strong and historical", - he said.

 

Zelensky also noted Poland's exceptional support for Ukraine, manifested in many ways - in particular unprecedented defense assistance as well as support for Ukrainian citizens forced to flee the country to escape the war.

 

"I want to thank the people of Poland for this closeness, warmth and humanity to our citizens," the president said and stressed that the state will do everything to make sure Ukrainians return home after the war.

 

He expressed hope that Poland will join the restoration of the Ukrainian territories affected by the Russian aggression after the war is over.


Separately, Zelensky thanked Mateusz Morawiecki, chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland, for being a true guide for Ukraine's future membership in the European Union.

 

"I am very happy that we have a large geopolitical army that has come to support Ukraine and sees Ukraine on the same level among equal, equal partners," the president said and expressed hope that important bilateral documents on Ukraine-Poland cooperation will be agreed upon during consultations.

 

"We very much believe in our relations and our great future," the Head of State stressed.

 

In gratitude on behalf of the Ukrainian people, the President of Ukraine honored Mateusz Morawiecki and Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski with state awards for helping Ukraine defend its independence and territorial integrity during the Russian invasion.

 

After that, with the participation of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal and the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland, a joint meeting of the governments of the two states was held.

 

The agenda included legal and social guarantees for Polish citizens on the territory of Ukraine, the development of the western Ukrainian state border and cooperation in controlling the crossing of the Ukrainian-Polish border.
