ISW: AFU counterattack in Kherson region could force Russian troops to bring in reinforcements

A successful counterattack by the Ukrainian military in the Kherson region may force the Russian occupants to bring additional forces to the region. This is according to the latest report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

ISW experts confirmed that Ukrainian troops conducted a successful limited counterattack near the borders of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions on May 28, forcing the Russian occupiers to switch to defense. The AFU counterattack was likely intended to frustrate Russian efforts to establish strong defensive positions in the south, they added.

Although the offensive will not be able to regain significant territory any time soon, it is likely to disrupt Russian plans in Ukraine, in particular it may slow down the occupiers' entrenchment in the south, experts said.
