Borrell announced another 500 million euros for military aid to Ukraine

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has announced a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros.

He said this before the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries in Germany, reports European Truth.

According to Borrell, the meeting will focus on providing Ukraine with even more of what has already been provided: "More support, particularly military support."

"I will announce that we as the European Union will provide a new tranche, another 500 million euros, to support Ukraine militarily. Thus, this support will reach 2 billion euros in total," he said.

Borrell specifies that these 500 million euros will be spent on heavy weapons.

Also, according to the head of European diplomacy, the meeting will discuss strengthening of sanctions against Russia, even more its international isolation, countering misinformation about the war consequences for energy and food prices in the world.

Josep Borrell also expressed his belief that member states would agree on an oil embargo against Russia despite the current opposition of Hungary.

He stated this before the meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Seven in Germany, reports European Truth.

According to him, work on agreeing the sixth package of sanctions is continuing.

"On Monday, the foreign ministers will consider the issue, and I will make a new political push for an agreement. I am convinced we will have an agreement. We need this agreement and we will have it. Because we need to get rid of oil dependence on Russia," said Borrell.

"We have to understand the specific circumstances of each of the 27 member states. But if there is not an agreement at the ambassadorial level, on Monday the ministers need to give a political push for that. I will make an effort to do that," he added.

As reported, some European Union countries allow a postponement of the oil embargo against Russia in order not to delay other measures from the sixth sanctions package - if it is not possible to convince Hungary to support it in its current form.
