Zelensky explained why it is impossible to name a specific time for Ukraine's accession to the EU

The procedure of Ukraine's accession to the European Union involves certain stages and it is impossible to name a specific final date.

This was stated by the deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva in the air of the all-Ukrainian telethon.

The official noted that Ukraine is now following these stages. In particular, Kiev has already handed over two parts of the questionnaire-questionnaire for the candidate status for membership in the European Union.

"There is a procedure for any country to join the European Union... The government has done its job decently. The president of Ukraine passed the second weighty part... Now the ball is on the side of the European Commission - they need time," Zhovkva said.

The deputy head of the OPU added that the Ukrainian side puts the deadline until the end of May, and asks the European Commission to "work fast" as our country does.

"Next is the status of the candidate during the meeting of the European Council, which we expect in June. And then we will talk, because next will begin negotiations. And now no one can say on what day, month or year it will happen, because we have not even started negotiations yet," he said.

Zhovkva added that not a single state is currently against Ukraine's European integration. Thus, he recalled, the head of the Bundestag, Berbel Bas, expressed hope that the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union "will not last a decade," and the head of the German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok said that Berlin insists on full membership of Ukraine in the EU.

"There is an absolutely positive trend here, so we will strengthen it further," the deputy head of the OPU said.

As previously reported, on May 10, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union could drag on for decades, and spoke about creating a new "European political community" by admitting Ukraine to its membership.

For his part, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba noted that if Europe does not grant candidate country status in June, it would be a deception of the Ukrainian side.
