Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the principle of unanimous decision-making by the EU member-states should be revised. This is reported by Ouest France.
Head of the European Commission announced support for changes in some points of the EU treaty. They should speed up the process of decision-making by the union.
"I have always said that a unanimous vote on some key issues no longer makes sense. We must also improve the way our democracy works. The EU must adapt in order to continue to improve the lives of Europeans," von der Leyen said.
The day before, the European Parliament proposed to change the EU's decision-making system. Currently, for important decisions, the consent of all EU members should be obtained. The existence of a veto slows down the solution of urgent problems, for example, the approval of an embargo on oil from Russia.
