There are currently about 700 Ukrainian servicemen held captive by the occupiers. At the same time, Russia is holding more than a thousand civilians, most of whom are women. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Reintegration Iryna Vereshchuk on the air of a telethon.

"More than a thousand civilians are held captive by the Russians, more than five hundred of them are women. We will not exchange the military for civilians, because it is prohibited by the Geneva Convention. We demand the unconditional release of our civilians. As for the number of prisoners, we have an approximate parity: we have about 700 of their prisoners of war and about 700 of our military," Vereshchuk said.

In her turn, she stressed that Russia does not fully comply with the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, exchanges prisoners selectively and does not pay attention to the lists submitted by the Ukrainian side.
