The European Union is working on further sanctions against Russia. However, these additional measures will not affect the energy sector, said European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni.
This was reported by Reuters.
According to him, the bloc of 27 countries will face a slowdown in growth caused by Russia's war against Ukraine, but not a recession, he added, saying that the growth forecast of 4% is too optimistic and the EU will not achieve it.
It should be noted that the EU imposed tough sanctions against Russia after the invasion of Ukraine, but the embargo on Russian oil and gas was never approved.
Earlier, a member of the German government's expert council on economic development, Veronika Grimm, said that Germany should immediately impose an embargo on Russian gas, despite the costs. She is sure that the main thing now is to cut off the source of currency for the Kremlin.
