Russia intends to turn Ukraine into a "second Syria," while at the same time warning of the need to strengthen international legislation to better maintain global peace. This statement was made by Josep Borrell, the European Union's high representative for foreign affairs, La Prensa Latina reported.
"If a strong country can forcefully impose whatever it wants on a non-threatening neighbor, going to war crimes to do so, destroying the country, making Mariupol a 'European Aleppo' and making Ukraine a second Syria, then the whole world will be in danger," he said at the forum opening in Doha.
During the session entitled "Transformation for a new era," the high representative stressed that the war in Ukraine "is not only a European issue" and that the resolution of this conflict requires "more rule of law in the international arena."
Borrell stressed that "one of the consequences (of Russian Aggression against Ukraine) is that the West may push Russia into China, which he believes will 'create an incredible imbalance in the world.
"We have to avoid this trend and the first thing to do is to stop this war of invasion, of attrition, and that's what we're doing by supporting Ukraine militarily without escalation," Borrell added.
