The European Union will continue to work on EU sanctions against Russia over the Ukrainian situation and will seek to avoid opportunities to circumvent its restrictive measures, European Council President Charles Michel said.
"We know that loopholes are being used to circumvent, to avoid the sanctions imposed. We will increase our efforts to reduce and close these alternative ways to circumvent the effects of sanctions whenever possible," the European Council chief told reporters in Brussels on Friday before the second day of the EU summit, with events in Ukraine as its central theme.
Michel added that diplomatic work will continue with third countries that directly or indirectly offer opportunities for such loopholes.
In addition, the president of the European Council told the press that European leaders had agreed on massive support for Ukraine, including military equipment. Financial and humanitarian aid will continue.
