On Thursday, March 24, the first full-fledged exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia took place, said Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk.
"Today by order of President Zelensky the first full-fledged exchange of prisoners of war took place. In exchange for 10 captured occupants we pulled out 10 of our soldiers," Vereshchuk wrote on social network Facebook.
In addition, there was an exchange of 11 civilian Russian sailors rescued from a sunken ship near Odessa for 19 Ukrainian civilian sailors from the rescue ship "Sapphire", which were captured by the occupants when they tried to take Ukrainian servicemen from the island of Snakeiniy.
The salvage ship itself will also be returned to Ukraine under the terms of the exchange and sent to a port in Turkey.
