Occupiers forcibly remove women and children from Ukraine to Russia - Denisova

The occupants are forcibly transporting women and children from the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions temporarily occupied by the enemy to the territory of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.

"In settlements where Russian troops enter, so-called "humanitarian corridors" are organized for residents to be taken to the aggressor country. Women, children, and the elderly are searched, their Ukrainian documents and phones are taken away, and they are sent to the border regions of the Russian Federation. There, they are placed in concentration camps with subsequent relocation to depressed regions of Russia for settlements," the report reads.

It is noted that people are left without means of communication with their relatives, often without food and basic necessities. Now there is no data on the number of displaced persons.

However, Denisova adds, the Russian press, which tends to distort reality in the direction of exaggerating the invading achievements, reports about 206 thousand migrants from Donbas.

"We can assume the existence of thousands of Don and Luhansk people forcibly removed from the occupied territories. Attempts by the Russians to create similar "humanitarian borders" of the occupying country were also recorded in the Kharkiv, Chernigov, Sumy and Kyiv regions. The fate of the forcibly removed people is still unknown," adds the ombudsman.

Such actions of the aggressor state are qualified as kidnapping, which is a war crime and a direct violation of Articles 3 and 34 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

"I appeal to the international community to take into account the terrorist activities of the aggressor state's troops when determining the limits of sanctions pressure on Russia. I urge the citizens of Ukraine, do not trust the occupiers! For evacuation, use only officially agreed humanitarian corridors announced on the pages of the Ukrainian authorities," Denisova summarized.
