The European Commission promises to prepare as soon as possible an official conclusion on Ukraine's readiness to receive the status of a candidate for EU membership.
European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varghei said this before a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday.
"The EU continues to support Ukraine and its people with assistance. And we have begun to work on providing an opinion based on Ukraine's membership application. We will work as quickly as we can," Varghei wrote.
The Office of the President of Ukraine insists that the work of the European Commission to prepare an opinion on Ukraine's readiness for candidate status will be significantly faster than that of other states that have gone this route.
An optimistic but also realistic deadline for granting candidate status to Ukraine is the EU summit in late June 2022.
