A meeting of the German parliament on Thursday opened with a video address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Individual members of the government, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, are present.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk and embassy employees are on the guest rostrum. Those present gave the Ukrainian leader a standing ovation.
Catherine Garing-Eckart, who chaired the meeting, said the world shuddered at pictures of the Russian Federation killing women and children and destroying Ukrainian towns and villages.
"Mr. President, your country has chosen democracy and that is what fears the way... Freedom is a gift that must always be fought for," the politician said.
She concluded in Ukrainian: "Together we are many, we cannot be overcome.
