War in Ukraine kills at least 564 civilians, 982 more wounded - UN

Civilian casualties from February 24, 2022, when Russia started the war against Ukraine, to 24:00 on March 10, 2022, were 1,546 civilians (the report a day earlier said 1,506), including 565 deaths (549), the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said.

"OHCHR believes that the real figures are significantly higher, especially in government-controlled territory, and especially in recent days, as information from some places where intense fighting has taken place is delayed and many reports are still awaiting confirmation," the document says.

According to it, this applies, for example, to Volnovakha, Mariupol, Izyum, where hundreds of civilian deaths or injuries have been reported. They are subject to further verification and are not included in the above statistics.

"The majority of civilian deaths or injuries were caused by the use of explosive devices with a wide kill zone, including heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers, as well as missile and air strikes," the report said.

The UN confirmed that 106 men, 73 women, nine boys and six girls were killed, while the gender of 26 children and 344 adults could not yet be determined.

Among the 982 wounded were 14 girls and 4 boys, as well as 34 children whose sex could not yet be determined.

Compared to the previous day, according to the UN, the number of dead children and wounded children has not changed.

The UN OHCHR indicates that as of midnight on March 11, there were 103 (99) dead and 378 (370) wounded in government-controlled territory in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and 25 (24) dead and 116 (115) wounded in territory controlled by the self-proclaimed "republics."

In other regions of Ukraine under government control (Kyiv, as well as Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Sumy, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions), the UN recorded 436 (426) dead and 488 (472) wounded.

The report also says that according to the Ukrainian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights and Child Rehabilitation, as of 11:00 a.m. March 10, 71 children (61) were killed and more than 100 children were wounded in government-controlled territory.

The increase in the figures in this summary compared to the figures in the previous summary should not be attributed only to the new cases that took place on 10 March, as during the day, OHCHR also verified a number of cases from previous days, the document specifies.
