The European Commission aims to double EU military aid to Ukraine and has offered to allocate another 500 million euros for this purpose.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrel said this on Friday, according to Reuters.
"Everyone is fully aware that we must strengthen our military support for Ukraine," he told reporters as he arrived for the second day of the EU leaders' meeting in Versailles.
"I am confident that the leaders will approve the allocation of these funds," Borrell said.
The EU is also considering additional sanctions against Russian oligarchs and the Russian economy, he added.
The European Union said on Feb. 27 that it had agreed to a 450 million-euro military aid package, and diplomatic chief Josep Borrel also said that several countries were ready to hand over combat aircraft.
However, Poland, Bulgaria and Slovakia later officially denied that they would transfer the planes to Ukraine.
