China refused to supply Russian airlines with aircraft parts. Valery Kudinova, a representative of Rosaviatsia, said this after Boeing and Airbus stopped supplying components.
This was reported by Reuters.
The Russian aviation sector is under pressure from Western sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine, and the Russian Foreign Ministry warned this week that the safety of Russian passenger flights is under threat.
Kudinov, who is responsible for maintaining aircraft airworthiness, said Russia will look to get parts from countries including Turkey and India after a failed attempt to get them from China
He also said that Russian companies are registering their aircraft, many of which were registered abroad, in Russia after U.S. and European Union sanctions, and that he expects some to be returned to leasing companies.
In addition, a bill released Thursday showed that the Russian government plans to require domestic airlines to pay for leased planes in rubles and could prohibit them from returning the planes to foreign companies if the leases are cancelled.
