Zelensky discussed energy security of Ukraine and EU countries with Commissioner Varhei

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has met with European Union Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Oliver Varghei, who is in Kiev on a working visit.

"During the meeting they discussed specific measures to ensure energy security of Ukraine and the EU countries in the conditions of modern security challenges," - the press service of the head of state.

It is noted that Zelenskyy appreciated the results of the December summit of the Eastern Partnership in Brussels, first of all, the approval of the Economic and investment plan for the partner countries, which provides funding for the implementation of reforms in a number of important sectors by allocating funds for the implementation of specific projects.

In this regard, the President noted that one of the highest priorities for Ukraine is to ensure energy efficiency, because in 2022 Ukraine begins the program "Big thermo-modernization", which will allow to carry out insulation of multistory buildings, schools and hospitals throughout the country.

"Despite current security challenges, Ukraine continues to implement important economic projects. Therefore, the EU's decision to allocate almost 2 billion euros for investment projects in Ukraine is a concrete manifestation of support from our European partners. Together with the earlier decision of the European Commission to provide macrofinancial assistance amounting to 1.2 billion euros, this is an important contribution to the stable development of the Ukrainian economy," Zelensky stressed.

He also thanked the European Union for its firm support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and called on all EU member states to remain united under these difficult conditions.
