Presidential National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan believes that an attempted coup in Ukraine could become a pretext for the invasion of Russia. The UNN writes this, citing Sullivan's statement during a briefing at the White House.
Sullivan noted that Russia could come up with an excuse to invade Ukraine, including sabotage and information operations.
"Our intelligence community is processing information that Russia is working to fabricate a pretext for an invasion, including sabotage and information operations, accusing Ukraine of preparing an attack on Russian forces in eastern Ukraine. We saw this in 2014," he said.
Note that the U.S. will respond strongly to Russia's attempt to deploy forces to Latin America.
