Today is 100 days since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Compared to Russia's original plan, none of the strategic objectives have been achieved.
The U.K. Ministry of Defense wrote this on Twitter.
"Russian troops failed to achieve their original goals of capturing Kyiv and the Ukrainian centers of power. Persistent Ukrainian resistance and failure to seize the Gostomel airfield in the first 24 hours led to the repulsion of Russian offensive operations," the statement said.
After failing the initial plan due to false assumptions in planning and poor tactical execution, Russia adapted its operational plan to focus on the Donbas.
As the Defense Ministry noted, Russia is now achieving tactical success in the Donbass. Russian forces have created and maintained momentum and now appear to own the initiative. Russia controls over 90% of the Luhansk region and is likely to fully establish control in the next two weeks. Russia has achieved these recent tactical successes at the cost of significant resources and the concentration of forces and fire on one part of the overall campaign.
"Russia has been unable to create maneuver or movement on other fronts or directions, all of which have turned to defense," the report said.
As a reminder, according to the British Defense Ministry, Russian troops will need at least a short tactical pause in the near future. It is needed in order to redeploy to forcing rivers and subsequent attacks deep into Donetsk Region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces have prepared defensive positions.
