Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The head of state proposed to update the Joint Declaration on the Special Partnership between Ukraine and Canada, the Official Internet Office of the President of Ukraine reports.

"Given the unprecedented nature of our bilateral relations, as well as new external challenges and priorities, I propose to instruct our foreign ministers to update the Joint Declaration", - said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President of Ukraine briefed the Canadian Prime Minister on the situation in the east of our state and on the border, and spoke about the steps being taken to achieve peace within the existing negotiation formats.

Noting the role of friends and partners of Ukraine in resolving the situation and preventing the increase of Russian aggression, the Head of State stressed that no decisions on Ukraine should be taken without Ukraine.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the positions in the context of the planned international events and negotiation formats.

"The position of Western countries in the dialogue with Russia must remain firm and resolute. It is necessary to be ready for the immediate introduction of a preventive package of sanctions against Russia in order to counteract the aggressive intentions of the Kremlin," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

During the conversation, the President noted the invariability of the Euro-Atlantic course of our state and expressed the conviction that Canada would continue to provide all possible support to Ukraine on its way to membership in the Alliance.

"No one, except Ukraine and NATO, should influence the process of our integration with the Alliance," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

The importance of the continuation of the Canadian UNIFIER training mission to train the Ukrainian military was noted separately.

The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Canada agreed on the need to make joint efforts to achieve due compensation for the families of the victims of the crashed UIA flight PS752, which was shot down over Tehran two years ago.

The President thanked Canada for its strong support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has invited Justin Trudeau to visit our country in 2022.
