EU High Representative Josep Borrel visited Ukraine

High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrel has paid a visit to Ukraine. This is his first foreign visit in the new year.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Twitter Borrel.

"My first visit in 2022 - Stanytsia Luganskaya and Kiev, Ukraine," the diplomat wrote.

Borrel noted that he arrived in Ukraine due to the military escalation from Russia to demonstrate EU support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to support reforms.

It also became known that Josep Borrell plans to submit proposals to the European Union countries on the preparation of the EU military advisory and training mission in Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.

This was stated by the High Representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy in an interview with the German edition Welt. According to him, Brussels is considering the possibility of introducing an EU military advisory and training mission to Ukraine (EU Military Advisory and Training Mission Ukraine), within the framework of which European military instructors would train the leadership of the Ukrainian army.

"We have already assessed on the spot what Ukrainians need, how we can really help, how much such a mission costs and who can take part in it. I will soon make a proposal to the EU member states," Borrell said.

Asked if the EU should support Ukraine more, he replied that the EU has provided Kiev with billions of euros in financial support in recent years, has continually expanded mutual trade and developed economic relations.

"Last week I decided to support the Ukrainian army with another 31 million euros. The aim is to improve logistical skills and fight cyber attacks," the high representative informed.

He also recalled that since 2014, the EUAM Ukraine mission has employed more than 80 people to help reform the civil security sector, including the police and prosecutor's office. This will help make Ukraine more resilient to internal and external threats, the diplomat added.
