EC is ready to consult with Ukraine on certification of Nord Stream-2

The European Commission is ready to consult with Ukraine when making a decision on the certification of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2, the UNIAN news agency has reported.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy after an online meeting between the head of the ministry German Halushchenko and the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

The interlocutors discussed the certification of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, the security of gas supplies to Europe, and possible options to reduce the impact of the energy crisis on the European region.

"According to Commissioner Simson, the European Commission is ready to consult with Ukraine in the process of preparing the commission's conclusion on the draft decision of the German Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur on the certification of Nord Stream-2," the report said.

Thus, the press service noted, Ukraine will become an active participant in the certification process not only politically, but also legally, the ministry noted.

In addition, the Ukrainian side was invited to take part in the "risk group", created in accordance with the regulation on security of supply, which consists exclusively of the EU Member States.

The press service specified that the purpose of the "risk group" meeting will be consultations regarding the state of energy security in Ukraine, development of joint solutions and mutual assistance together with European countries in crisis situations.

"We have quality expertise in gas transportation, operating large volumes of gas and an understanding of how Russia can violate European rules. Therefore, the involvement of Ukraine in the European processes of energy security will be beneficial both for Ukraine and Europe. We are already making all the necessary steps to secure energy supplies to Europe and offer solutions that will strengthen energy security of the entire region in the long term", Galushchenko said.
