Germany suspended the certification of Nord Stream 2

Germany's Federal Network Agency has temporarily suspended the certification of Nord Stream 2AG as the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This is stated in a press release from the agency.

The agency stated that Nord Stream 2 AG can be certified only if it reorganizes in accordance with German law.

The agency said in a press release that Nord Stream 2 AG is headquartered in Zug, Switzerland. Therefore, to manage the part of the pipeline located on German territory, the operator decided to establish a subsidiary in Germany.

"This subsidiary is to become the owner and operator of the German part of the pipeline. The subsidiary must then meet the requirements of the independent operator as set out in the German Energy Industry Act. The certification procedure will be suspended until the main assets and human resources have been transferred to the subsidiary," the German regulator explained.

Recall that work on the laying of the pipes of "Nord Stream-2" was completed on September 6, 2021. On November 8, "Gazprom" announced that the pipeline is ready to be launched.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported, citing sources close to Gazprom and the Kremlin, that Russia does not intend to increase natural gas supplies to the European Union, which is currently in an energy crisis, until it receives all the necessary permits for the launch of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline.
