The U.S. and the EU reached a new era in cooperation at the G20 meeting in Rome, U.S. President Joe Biden said Sunday, speaking at a joint press conference with European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"The U.S. and the EU have moved into a new era of transatlantic cooperation that will benefit all our people, both now and, I believe, in the future," he said.

The U.S. president said the steel and aluminum agreements were proof of the power of bilateral cooperation and what the U.S. can achieve in working together with friends.

The head of the European Commission called the agreements an "important step" in EU-U.S. relations.

"We have rebuilt trust and ties," she said.
