Kirby: Permission for strikes on Russian territory may be expanded

The United States has said that the limited permission to strike Russian territory with American weapons may be reviewed and expanded. This statement was made by White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby.

During a briefing, in response to journalists' questions, Kirby said that “conditions on the battlefield have been changing” and the United States has been “developing and changing its support for Ukraine.”

“And I would not expect the current overall approach to change in the coming weeks or months. We'll see how the situation develops and what the Ukrainians need,” the adviser said.

He noted that the United States will continue to have “these conversations with the Ukrainians” about the possible expansion of the geography of strikes by American weapons on Russian territory.

“Whether this will lead to additional policy changes, I can't say right now. But we will not be distracted from the needs of Ukraine. And we will continue to try to evolve our support as the situation on the battlefield evolves,” Kirby said.
