Republicans criticize the White House for banning the use of US weapons on Russian territory: details

Republicans in the US Congress have criticized the White House for not allowing Ukraine to use American weapons for strikes on Russian territory. At the same time, they say that lawmakers did not impose such a ban. This was stated by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

In particular, McCaul showed on the map that the Russians deploy artillery on their territory and use it to strike at the territory of Ukraine, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot respond. According to him, the responsibility for this lies with White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

“Your administration and Jake Sullivan have restricted the use of weapons so that Ukraine cannot defend itself and repel Russia. That's why I would authorize the use of long-range and short-range systems, as well as HIMARS, while your administration is tying their [Ukrainians'] hands behind their backs... Will you change this policy so that Ukraine can fight without having its hands tied behind its back?” - McCaul asked Blinken.

Blinken avoided a direct answer to McCaul's question, saying that the United States has rallied 50 countries to provide military aid to Ukraine in two years.

“When it comes to encouraging, approving attacks outside of Ukraine, we have not done that, but Ukraine will have to make and will make its own decisions. And I want to make sure that they get the equipment they need. And, you know, Congress has provided them with the weapons and thank you for that,” Blinken said.

McCaul, in response, noted that Congress did not impose restrictions on the use of American weapons on the territory of Russia.

“I've talked to the Ukrainians. They can't win with these restrictions that you, not Congress, have imposed on them. And I hope that you will appeal to the US National Security Council and change this political decision, which is very dangerous and harmful to the people of Ukraine,” he added.
