Electricity tariff in Ukraine may be doubled

The electricity tariff in Ukraine may be doubled. This was reported by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Subcommittee on Energy Security, Victoria Hryb.

“I hear different figures, everything will depend on what decision our energy regulator, the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities, will make. We'll see, I can't answer this question yet, but I hear that it may even be doubled,” said Hryb.

She noted that it all depends on the situation of the power system.

If there is no electricity, then generators will have to be used, which will lead to a 4-5 times increase in the price of a kilowatt. It is also possible to attract emergency assistance from Europe, which will also cost several times more.

“Such decisions are very painful, I understand that, but we will definitely help vulnerable people,” emphasized Victoria Hryb.

She emphasized that the Rada will try to do everything to ensure that people can pay the tariff. Therefore, a conversation will be held with the government and international partners about subsidies and the creation of an energy support fund for vulnerable groups.
