Hungary vetoes resolution of the Council of Europe to recognize “Zelensky's peace formula” without alternative

Hungary has vetoed a Council of Europe resolution recognizing only one peace plan - Zelensky's “peace formula”. This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijarto.

“The Council wanted to adopt a resolution today in which it wanted to recognize only and exclusively President Zelensky's peace plan as a peace formula that should be considered and supported. This is unacceptable for us. Other countries have also developed peace plans that are no worse than the Ukrainian president's plan. I asked to include other peace plans in the Council of Europe resolution. This was rejected by a majority vote. That is why I vetoed it so that it would not become a Council decision,” Szijarto said.

He believes that the Council of Europe could be a good platform for peacebuilding. However, according to Szijarto, such an opportunity was lost after Russia was expelled from the Council of Europe.

“Instead of arms transfers and fantasies about nuclear war, we need real peace talks. And real peace talks can only take place when all the warring parties are at the table,” the Hungarian official said.

As we reported earlier, Putin said Moscow has never given up on negotiations and is analyzing “with whom we can deal with regarding Ukraine and whom we can trust.”
