Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that in order to achieve its goals, Moscow may need to "reach Kyiv". The former Russian president expressed this opinion in an interview with Russian media.
"Where to stop? I don't know. I think that, given what I said (about the need to create a protective border), we still have to work hard and seriously. Will it be Kyiv? Yes, it should probably be Kyiv. If not now, then in some time, perhaps in some other phase of the conflict," Medvedev said.
The deputy head of the Russian Security Council justified the need to reach Kyiv for two reasons: the fact that Kyiv, in his words, is a "Russian city" and the fact that it is from there that "the international threat to Russia's existence comes from" because Kyiv is "led by an international brigade of Russia's opponents led by the United States."
Medvedev also mentioned Odesa. He said that the city "has been waiting for a long time as part of Russia."
"I can simply say about Odesa: Odesa, come home. That's all. We have been waiting for Odesa in the Russian Federation. Even because of the history of this city, because of the people who live there, the language they speak. This is our Russian city," the deputy head of the Russian Security Council said.
Medvedev also believes that "negotiations with Ukraine will become possible when the Kyiv regime changes."
