Reuters: NATO will buy artillery shells worth 1.1 billion euros, part of which will go to Ukraine

NATO has signed a €1.1 billion contract for the supply of 155mm artillery ammunition, with some of the shells to be delivered to Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters.

"The war in Ukraine has turned into a battle of ammunition," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said after the signing ceremony at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels.

NATO made the deal on behalf of several allies, which will either transfer the shells to Ukraine or use them to replenish their depleted stockpiles. Bulk purchases guarantee lower prices.

According to the contract, about 220,000 artillery ammunition will most likely be purchased, with first deliveries expected in late 2025, a NATO official told Reuters.

According to an industry source, the ammunition will be supplied by French arms manufacturer Nexter and German Junghans.
