TCC: Issuing summonses in gyms is legal

Videos are being spread in Ukraine showing employees of military commissariats in different regions coming to gyms to issue summonses. The Zakarpattia territorial recruitment center said that everything is done within the law.

"In our opinion, those men of conscription age who deliberately avoid military service, work out in gyms or have fun in recreation centers are not privileged compared to the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who in difficult conditions hold the defense and beat the enemy," the statement said.

They noted that the delivery of summons does not mean that the conscript is immediately taken to war.

"First, the data is clarified, the conscript undergoes a medical examination, and only then, if the person is fit for service, a mobilization order is issued. So, the conscript goes to study," the TCC said.

The military commissariat also emphasized that any obstruction of the issuing of summons is subject to criminal liability under the article on obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces during a special period with a penalty of five to eight years in prison.

"There are many specialties in the Armed Forces that do not involve direct participation in hostilities, but are important for supporting the frontline. Anyone can find a list of these specialties on the Armed Forces website, register, receive a decent salary and at the same time help the country in its time of need. We also ask you to understand that the Armed Forces are primarily people, including your acquaintances, your friends, parents, husbands, sons and daughters, who are waiting to be replaced or replenished," they summarized.
