US will bear responsibility for Ukraine's defeat due to lack of new aid, - US Treasury Secretary

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that her country would be responsible for Ukraine's possible defeat if Congress does not approve new aid to Kyiv. She said this during a visit to Mexico City, Reuters reports.

According to her, she spoke with members of Congress who understand the complexity of the situation with support for Ukraine.

"And we can take responsibility for Ukraine's defeat if we fail to provide it with the necessary funding. I include direct support for the budget because it is extremely important," Yellen said.

She noted that without US assistance, Ukraine will not be able to maintain education, hospitals and emergency services.

"Ukraine is simply running out of money. They are spending more than every penny they receive in taxes, military and defense salaries. The US aid was accompanied by very strict controls to protect against any misuse and any corruption," the minister said.
