Slovak carriers are ready to completely block the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint on the border with Ukraine if the "transport visa-free regime" for Ukrainian carriers is not canceled. This is stated in a statement by the Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia (UNAS).
The union said that a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Transport is scheduled for December 7 to discuss the situation on the Ukrainian-Slovak border and ways to solve it.
"We thank Transport Minister Jozef Raž for emphasizing the seriousness of the issue of release of Ukrainian carriers from transport permits and the impact of this relaxation on Slovak road transport at a meeting of the Council of Transport Ministers in Brussels," the statement said.
In the statement, the carriers expressed outrage that Western EU countries do not take this issue seriously and that even representatives of the European Commission and the EU demand that the Slovak government ensure the passability of the borders of Slovakia and Ukraine. They called it "ignoring fundamental human rights and freedoms."
"UNAS remains ready for a strike, and if there is no alternative solution to the situation, UNAS is ready to completely block the Vysne Nemecke-Uzhhorod border crossing in both directions," the union added.
