Negotiations between Ukraine and Poland at the border to unblock cargo transport checkpoints have not yet yielded any results. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Serhiy Derkach.
According to him, the main demand of Polish carriers is to return to the system of permits for cargo transportation. This is an unacceptable condition that Ukraine is not even discussing, Derkach said.
"As a matter of principle for us: "transport visa-free regime" should continue and be extended. At least until our victory comes. The absurdity of the demand is that the Polish protesters are not addressing their government, but want Ukraine to apply to the EU for permits. The protesters are not interested in other issues. We are trying to find compromises to increase the throughput and fulfill the memorandums already signed, but it is difficult," the deputy minister wrote.
In a video message, he noted that the negotiations at the border were "long, difficult and emotional," and there were many issues that the Polish side "did not want to discuss so much as use slogans." The EU has agreed on a system for obtaining permits for Ukraine until June 30, and Poland cannot withdraw from it, he emphasized.
"When we asked them what the problem was and why you want the permits back, they said they felt there was an imbalance. Before the full-scale invasion, the ratio between Ukrainian and Polish carriers was 60 to 40, and now 90-95% of the traffic is Ukrainian. And when we asked whether they were ready to travel to the regions of Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, the Poles, of course, said they did not go there," Derkach said.
The minister added that the next talks should be held in a trilateral format with the participation of the European Commission.
