A drone attack damaged the Russian oil products tanker SIG in the Kerch Strait (UPDATED)

On the night of August 5, an explosion occurred in the Kerch Strait, which damaged the Russian chemical/oil products tanker SIG due to an attack by naval drones. Russian media reported on this incident. It is known that the ship was on its way from Turkey.

Audio negotiations of the ship's crew were published in the Telegram channel "Ostorozhno novosti". It is clear from the recording that the tanker remained afloat, but could not move without a tug.

Russia's Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transportation notes that the SIG suffered a hole in the engine room area on the starboard side. Two vessels were dispatched to assist the tanker. At the time of the incident, there were 11 people on board.

According to information from RBC-Ukraine, the attack was carried out by the Security Service and the Naval Forces of Ukraine using a surface drone and 450 kg of TNT. Thus, one of the powerful oil tankers of the Russian Federation, which was probably "well loaded" with fuel, was damaged. The special operation took place in the territorial waters of Ukraine.

This is the second attack on Russian ships in two days. On the night of August 4, naval drones attacked the port of Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation.

UPDATED

The head of the security service of the Ukraine, Vasyl Maliuk, commented on the attacks by surface drones on the Russian tanker, calling them "a logical and effective step against the enemy."
