Zelenskyi held an urgent meeting of the National Security Council due to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP: international and security measures were agreed

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced that he held an urgent meeting of the NSDC due to the enemy's undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP, where they agreed on international and security measures to bring the Russian Federation to justice.

"Held an urgent meeting of the National Security Council. (...) At the meeting of the National Security Council, a set of international and security measures was agreed upon to hold Russia accountable for this terrorist act. Strict accountability," Zelenskyi said on social media.

The President noted that this night at 2:50 a.m., Russian terrorists carried out an internal detonation of the structures of the Kakhovskaya HPP. About 80 settlements are in the flooding zone.

"We are tasked with evacuating from risk areas and providing drinking water to all cities and villages that were supplied with water from the Kakhovsky Reservoir. We are doing everything to save people. All services, the military, the Government, the Office are involved," the Head of State emphasized.

On June 6, 2023, around 3:00 a.m., the Russian military blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP in the Kherson region. Due to the explosion, the Kakhovskaya HPP was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.

There is an additional threat to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, but the situation is under control, Energoatom said.

Criminal proceedings on ecocide have been opened.

After a few hours, the water will reach a critical level. There is a threat of flooding up to 80 settlements. About 16,000 people were in the critical zone.

The Kherson Regional Government announced the evacuation of the population of some settlements, including some from Kherson. Evacuation has already begun.

Due to the detonation by the occupiers of the HPP, President Zelenskyy convenes an emergency meeting of the National Security Council.
