South Africa began to investigate the possible sale of weapons to Russia

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has set up a commission to investigate allegations by the US ambassador that a Russian ship took weapons from a naval base near Cape Town last year.

 This is reported by Reuters.

"The President decided to open an investigation due to the seriousness of the allegations (by the US regarding the transfer of weapons to Russia), the degree of public interest and the impact of this issue on South Africa's international relations," the South African Presidential Administration said in a statement.

It is also added that the commission will have six weeks to conduct an investigation.

The president is expected to receive a final report within two weeks of the investigation.
