President Volodymyr Zelenskiy noted that if Russia tries to annex them on the basis of the so-called "referendums" in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, this means closing any negotiations with Moscow.
Zelenskyy said this in his speech at the UN Security Council on Tuesday.
"(Annexation) is an attempt to steal the territory of another state. It is an attempt to erase the norms of international law. And it is a very cynical attempt to force men in the occupied territory of Ukraine to mobilize into the Russian army in order to throw them into fighting against their own homeland!" - emphasized the head of state.
According to him, there is only one way to prevent such actions of Russia: exclude it from all international organizations (or suspend its membership) - in particular, deprive it of the status of a permanent member of the UN Security Council with the right of veto; strengthen sanctions against Moscow in all spheres; provide Ukraine with all necessary financial and military support, as well as legally binding security guarantees.
"I want you to understand all this. Russia's recognition of these pseudo-referendums as apparently normal, the implementation of the so-called "Crimean scenario" and another attempt to annex Ukrainian territory will mean that there is nothing to talk about with this president of Russia. Annexation is such a step that puts he alone against all humanity. This is exactly the kind of clear signal that every country in the world needs right now," Zelenskiy concluded.
We will remind you that during September 23-27, Russia held so-called referendums in the temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions of Ukraine.
