Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain died at the age of 96 in Balmoral Castle, Scotland. Buckingham Palace reported this without specifying the reasons.

 Her eldest son, 73-year-old Prince Charles, will become the next monarch of Great Britain. His wife, 75-year-old Camilla, will become queen consort (meaning that the king's wife has equal social status with him and has the female equivalent of his monarchical title).

 In a statement from Buckingham Palace, Charles and Camilla will remain at Balmoral Castle and return to London tomorrow, Friday.
