The risk of nuclear conflict has become the highest in decades - Guterres

At the moment, the risk of a nuclear conflict has become the most serious in recent decades. This was emphasized by UN Secretary General António Guterres at the meeting of the Security Council.

In his opinion, the "rattling of nuclear weapons" should be stopped.

"The nuclear risk has reached its highest point in decades," he said.

He noted that countries that have nuclear weapons must undertake not to be the first to use them and "assure non-nuclear states that they will not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against them."

Guterres also stated that the situation with the Zaporizhzhya NPP should be resolved through dialogue.

"Commitment to dialogue should be shown in the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP. I confirm once again that the UN has security and logistics capabilities in Ukraine to ensure the IAEA mission from Kyiv to Zaporizhzhya," he said.
