Podolyak about negotiations with Russia: its appetite will grow and the war will continue

There are currently no negotiations on war and peace, because it is impossible to find a point of consensus. However, if they were held today, Russia's appetite would increase, and after a while the war would continue.

Mikhail Podolyak, advisor to the head of the Presidential Office, said this in an interview with El Pais.

"For Russia, it is extremely important to secure its newly seized territories. For Ukraine, a discussion under these conditions is impossible. If negotiations take place today, Russia will want to consolidate the occupied territories, the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This will mean that Russia's appetite will increase, and after some time we will get a continuation of the war," he said.

According to Podolyak, Russia will become much more aggressive in the European market and create complete chaos.

"Europe will pay dearly for this with a fall in the quality of life. If Europe wants to restore pre-war Ukraine, it is necessary that we tactically expel Russia from its territory and that it transform its current aggressive political system. Only then will Europe be able to return to a peaceful life," the advisor to the OP stressed.

Podolyak added that if at least one hotbed of tension in relations with Russia persists, there will be a war without end.

"If Russia does not lose, it will continue to provoke Europe in such enclaves as Transnistria, Georgia and Northern Kazakhstan," he said.

As a reminder, earlier, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that there is no indication that Russia wants to end the war against Ukraine through negotiations.

Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that he did not believe in Russia's desire for diplomacy and stressed that Moscow's statements about its alleged readiness for dialogue were just a lie.
