Transnistria intends to become part of Russia

The authorities of the unrecognized Transnistria declared their intention to seek independence with subsequent incorporation into Russia.

Vitaly Ignatiev, the foreign minister of unrecognized Transnistria, said this, Newsmaker reported.

According to him, the vector of Transnistria "remains unchanged" throughout all the years of the region's existence.

"This is reflected in the results of the referendum of September 17, 2006, which clearly stated: independence followed by free accession to the Russian Federation. The country's independence is an unconditional priority," Ignatiev said.

In its turn, the Reintegration Office of Moldova responded to Ignatiev's statement by saying that international partners and constitutional authorities strongly support the formula of the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, respecting Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

The ministry stressed that Moldova's reintegration is the main goal of the negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict settlement.

Let us remind that the Moldovan government plans to analyze the laws and international agreements with the CIS for contradiction with the norms and requirements of the European Union.

In addition, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Moldova's application for EU membership is "quite legitimate," despite the situation with Transnistria.
