France will increase military aid to Ukraine and strengthen its contingent on NATO's eastern flank - Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the unanimous decision of NATO member states to strengthen economic, humanitarian and military support for Ukraine.

"Allies are fulfilling their responsibilities. France will very quickly supply (Ukraine) with six additional Caesar self-propelled artillery units as well as armored vehicles," Macron told a news conference Thursday after the conclusion of the NATO summit in Madrid.

He described the situation in Ukraine as "extremely serious.

The French president also announced plans to strengthen the French military presence on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance. "We have decided on a military reinforcement on the eastern flank of NATO," Macron said.

He also said that the summit that ended marked a very important step with regard to the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO, to which Turkey has agreed.

"This decision will strengthen their security and make a significant contribution to our collective position and our European security. I thank Turkey for joining a consensus that allows respect for sovereign choices," Macron said.
