GUR continues to work on freeing Ukrainian defenders from Russian captivity - Zelensky

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry is negotiating with the Russian side on the exchange of military personnel, in particular foreigners who have been captured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told this in an interview with the American TV channel NBC.

"There are thousands of Ukrainian prisoners today. There are guys from Great Britain, brave guys from the United States who, unfortunately, have been captured. We treat them the same way we treat Ukrainians. What can the president do? Right now at the development level we are negotiating with the other side who are holding our prisoners. Our task is to release all our soldiers," Zelensky noted.

The president stressed that the Main Directorate of Intelligence has a special center that deals exclusively with this issue, where experts are working through all possible options.

"The issue is that by not releasing the British, or the guys from the United States, Russia is simply showing that it wants to communicate with those states that, because of the aggression of the Russian Federation, quite rightly isolate the military and political leadership. Because they are the first to isolate themselves from the civilized world with their steps," said the head of state.

Recall that over the past 24 hours in the Mykolayiv region there was an exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia in the format of 15 to 17. Sixteen military and one civilian returned home. Some of the soldiers were immediately hospitalized.
