The Federal Chancellery reported in a broadcast that about 254 million euros of Russian assets were frozen in 97 accounts in Austria as part of the EU sanctions. ORF informs about it.
A task force headed by the Austrian Interior Ministry's State Security and Intelligence Directorate, in cooperation with many ministries, has been set up specifically to trace Russian assets and is responsible for investigating the assets. Investigators were also able to uncover five land records that probably served to conceal assets.
"With these measures we are hitting the oligarchs exactly where it hurts them: their money," said Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
We should add that the European Union adopted five packages of sanctions because of Russia's attack on Ukraine. 27 EU states agreed, in particular, to impose sanctions on a number of Russian oligarchs and their assets in Europe. The Federal Chancellery said that 1,091 people and 80 organizations were affected.
