About 80% of residential buildings destroyed in Izyum due to Russian shelling - deputy mayor

Izyum has been subjected to intensive enemy shelling since March 6, and about 80% of residential buildings in the city have been destroyed as a result of missile attacks and bombardment.

This was reported by Izyum Deputy Mayor Volodymyr Matsokin.

He noted that the shelling by Russian troops was completely barbaric and chaotic in nature.

"The crushing bombardment from airplanes, rockets, artillery, mortars began. And this was happening 24 hours a day. It is unclear what military logic could have been there. Everything was destroyed. World War II memorials, kindergartens, lyceums, medical and social institutions, tracks, pedestrian bridge, ... central square, central park, architectural monuments. An apocalyptic picture..." - says the deputy mayor.

The character of destructions of buildings was very serious: whole entrances were "folded", only walls and remnants of "boxes" were left of schools. So, in Izyum about 80% of residential buildings were destroyed, said Matsokin.

According to calculations of the city authorities, 15 to 20 thousand people in Izyum and the villages below the city are blocked and in need of humanitarian aid.

Matsokin also said it is highly likely that some people were trapped in the basement during the shelling and citizens were buried alive there.

"There is no definitive information, but the Russians will not allow anyone there. These are crimes against humanity, a violation of every humanitarian rule that even exists in the world," he said.

It was previously reported that Russian occupiers took control of Izyum on April 1, and the actions of local traitors led to a complete blockade of the city by the invaders.
