UN expands humanitarian operations in Ukraine

The UN will send humanitarian aid to Ukraine. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.

"The UN is expanding our humanitarian operations in and around Ukraine. We seek to stay and work, to support people in Ukraine in a time of need. We are providing life-saving humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable, no matter who or where they are," he said.

In response to this statement, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken thanked the UN for ensuring that aid would be provided despite extremely dangerous and difficult circumstances.

"In response to Russia's deliberate, unprovoked and unjustified attack, our focus is on the urgent humanitarian needs of Ukraine. I thanked Antonio Guterres for his commitment to UN assistance in Ukraine despite extremely dangerous and difficult circumstances," Blinken wrote.

As a reminder, on the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had "decided on a special military operation" in Ukraine. Around 5 a.m., Russia began an invasion of Ukraine, explosions were heard in many major cities, and dozens of people were injured and killed.
