Lithuania concluded an agreement with a major military equipment manufacturer Rheinmetall to build a plant for the production of weapons on its territory. This is reported in a press release by the Ministry of Economy of Lithuania.
The Minister of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania, Aušrinė Armonaitė, noted that the establishment of the Rheinmetall plant is a strategically important step for the country in meeting its defense and security needs. The relocation of production to its own territory will help Lithuania to ensure the supply of necessary military equipment and ammunition, in particular for the needs of European defense.
According to the agreement, more than €180 million will be invested in the project, which will also create at least 150 new jobs at the plant.
The location of the plant is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. In addition, the plant plans to produce tens of thousands of ammunition annually.
