If the electricity tariff is not revised, there may be problems with electricity in winter. There will be outages lasting 12 to 18 hours. This was stated by Serhiy Nagornyak, a member of the Rada's Energy Committee, during a telethon.

According to him, after the shelling, the situation in the energy system is much more complicated than it was last winter.

“We need to tell people the truth. If we don't make some drastic decisions, we will have only light for 12 or 18 hours a day in winter out of 24 hours, because we will have an extremely difficult situation and a huge deficit,” Nagornyak said.

He claims that Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo cover the difference between the market price of electricity and the preferential tariff for the population with their own expense. This costs Energoatom 100 billion hryvnias a year and Ukrhydroenergo 25 billion a year.

He believes that the electricity tariff should have been revised at the beginning of April and that people should have been told that the repair campaign should have started immediately.

“Unfortunately, we cannot provide (supply electricity) at a reduced rate for the population now,” Nagornyak emphasized.
